The Stoddard Family Association also publishes a quarterly newsletter, The Stoddard Tribeloid. The newsletter attempts to keep up with Stoddard happenings, publishes Stoddard information sent in by our readers, and prints queries for readers who hope that other readers will have information useful to them in tracing their own Stoddard lines.
A subscription to the newsletter is included in the annual Association membership. Membership dues are used to publish and distribute the Tribeloid, to augment our library of Stoddard printed material and Stoddard family data, and to support library and archive research on the Stoddard name. The information thus obtained is maintained for the use of anyone interested in the Stoddard family name.
In January of 1980, Charles H. Stoddard of Littleton, NH produced the first issue of a newsletter devoted to the genealogical research on the Stoddard name and all its various spellings. He named the publication The Stoddard Tribeloid to recognize the various lineages and designed a logo, still in use today, that incorporated the multiple spellings. Originally published six times a year, the Tribeloid became a quarterly in 1984. Publication continued until 1988 when Charles passed away; his final issue was #43, published in July of 1988.
At the same time, in England, Jane Hamlin Stoddard published the UK edition of the Tribeloid. In all, she edited thirteen issues before her death in 1984.
In January of 1993, two genealogists who had collaborated with Charles for many years formed the Stoddard Family Association and resumed publication of the Tribeloid. John H. Stoddard of Elmhurst, IL became the new editor. The newsletter was patterned after the original Tribeloid and for the sake of continuity, was continued with issue #44.
John gave up the editing duties in 2002 and passed the torch to Gale Williams, who continues as editor today.
